What is an Ultrasound of the leg veins?

An ultrasound scan of your leg veins will assess the size, site and function of the veins in your legs.  A small hand-held transducer which sends out sound waves is moved over your leg after gel has been applied.  Images are formed on a TV screen and pictures are taken of these.
