What is an Interventional Study?
Interventional radiology is a specialty in which minimally invasive procedures are performed using image guidance. The machine used is called an image intensifier. Some of these procedures are done for purely diagnostic purposes eg: angiogram, while others are done for treatment purposes eg: angioplasty. Real time images are used to direct these procedures which are usually done with needles or other tiny instruments like small tubes called catheters. Using these real time images the radiologist will guide these instruments through the body to the areas of interest.
