CRISP

Cardiology Radiology Interventional Special Procedures
NURSES' NEW ZEALAND

MINNZ

If you are a new member to a radiology department or a cardiac cath lab you may be wondering what is CRISP and what is MINNZ and is there any difference.

CRISP stands for Cardiology, Radiology, Interventional and Special Procedures, Nurses’ New Zealand.  CRISP Nurses NZ is a national body set up to help bring nurses working in the interventional radiology field together and facilitate sharing of information and experience.  CRISP’s inaugural meeting was held in 1985.

The delegates at CRISP’s 23rd AGM, in August, 2007, agreed that CRISP nurses should re-explore being a special interest section of NZNO.  Some ten years ago, CRISP nurses rejected a proposal to be a NZNO section however times have changed, especially in the area of skill mix and role expansion so it is worth re-exploring this avenue.  With this brief in mind a steering committee was formed.

Committee Leader: Fiona Unac, Hawkes Bay
Committee Members: Sarah Duffy, Auckland
  Shona Matthews, Auckland
  Irene Grant, Waikato
  Jenny Skea, Christchurch

During correspondence with NZNO, it quickly became apparent that the CRISP title created confusion.  The committee along with the CRISP Chair, Doryan Mahalm decided that all correspondence with NZNO would be under the title “Medical Imaging Nurses of New Zealand (MINNZ)”.  This is in line with our Australian counterparts MINA “Medical Imaging Nurses of Australia”.

The 2008 CRISP AGM will provide a forum for CRISP nurses to discuss whether this title would better represent our nursing specialty.
